| Origin | |
| Dirk Garthwaite was fired
from a demolition company for his antisocial behavior and violent fits.
Deciding to turn his talents for mayhem and destruction to criminal
activity, Garthwaite fashioned a simple costume and violently brandished a
crowbar. Becoming more daring with each crime he continually evaded
the police. While in the commission of a breaking and entry crime at a hotel, Garthwaite encountered the Norse god Loki - who had been rendered powerless and exiled from Asgard by the chief of the gods, Odin. By coincidence, at that moment Loki was using his mystical knowledge to summon the Norn Queen Karnilla to grant him magical powers with which to battle his half-brother Thor. Easily overpowering the exiled trickster god, Garthwaite took Loki's horned golden helmet and donned it upon his own head. It was at this moment that Karnilla appeared and mistook Garthwaite for Loki - casting her spell which empowered the common criminal with superhuman strength and durability. Now nearly unstoppable, Garthwaite no longer feared mortal law enforcement when committing his crimes as the Wrecker. |
