Learning that rewards followed punishments, Laughton would purposefully misbehave. Growing into a socially stunted young man, Laughton gravitated toward the strange, becoming a sideshow contortionist known as Umberto the Uncanny. Realizing the criminal potential of his skills, Laughton stole a flock of trained birds to commit crimes as the Scarecrow. | |
