Origin
Ebenezer Laughton's alcoholic mother would beat him and feeling guilty when she sobered up would later reward him with gifts.  Learning that rewards followed punishments, Laughton would purposefully misbehave.  Growing into a socially stunted young man, Laughton gravitated toward the strange, becoming a sideshow contortionist known as Umberto the Uncanny.  Realizing the criminal potential of his skills, Laughton stole a flock of trained birds to commit crimes as the Scarecrow.
