Onslaught is a malevolent sentient psionic entity created form the consciousness of Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto I).

Distraught with grief over the endless persecution against mutants and the death of Illyana Rasputin (Magik I) from the Legacy Virus, Magneto intended on using an electromagnetic weapon to destroy humanity from his space station, Avalon.

The X-Men lead by Professor X traveled to Avalon to stop Magneto's plan.  Using his telepathic powers, Professor X had to resort to shutting down Magneto's mind rendering him comatose.  While in contact with his adversary's mind Xavier was infected with Magneto's anger, grief and lust for vengeance.  These negative feelings with his own long-suppressed emotions combined and festered.

In time the combined emotions of these two mutant leaders would take form as a global menace that required the combined might of Earth's heroes to stop the Onslaught.
