Campbell joined Moria MacTaggart's genetic research program at the Muir
Island Mutant Research Center when the British superhero team
Excalibur was stationed there. Learning that in an alternate
timeline he would become the mutant-hunter Ahab, he became determined to
prevent that future from coming to pass. When Magneto's Acolyte, Spoor, caused Campbell to loose his left leg, he quit Muir Island and went to work for Britain's Weird Happenings Organization (W.H.O.). While at W.H.O., Campbell stole information on the mutant killing Legacy Virus for Sebastian Shaw of the Hellfire Club, in exchange for a bionic leg. Seduced by the ancient mutant Apocalypse, Campbell was genetically altered into the Horseman Famine. As Famine, Campbell was tasked to capture members of The Twelve, a group of mutants believed to usher in a golden era of mutant-kind. During an altercation with The Twelve, Famine and the other Horsemen were teleported to locations unknown by the mutant Mikhail Rasputin. In the future timeline known as Earth-811, Campbell became a fearsome mutant hunter. Further cybernetically altered Campbell was charged with the task of capturing and enslaving mutants into becoming the Hounds of Ahab. |
