DC
Comics Presents #47 (July,
1982) Note: Initially a line of action-figures produced by Mattel, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was spun-off into print and television media as a means of advertising. Recognizing the popularity of their animated television commercials, produced by Filmation, Mattel ordered a first season of 65 episodes, which aired in the United States in 1983. The cartoon would air 103 original episodes until 1985, and spin-off into two new future He-Man cartoons, and She-Ra: Princess of Power, a show more targeted towards girls. He-Man was introduced in comics through a team up with Superman in DC Comics Presents, and a three issue limited-series was produced by DC in 1982. Marvel Comics produced a twelve issue run under its Star line of comics, targeted at younger readers in 1986. Image Comics began publishing a new line of Masters of the Universe comics in 2003. |

| Origin | |
| Centuries ago, Eternia was
ruled by a race of Snakemen lead by the evil King Hiss - who enslaved
the human inhabitants.
A revolution arose and the mystic Eldor trapped King Hiss within the labyrinths below Snake Mountain, binding him mystically within the rocks. Leaderless the Snakemen were overwhelmed and peace reigned over the planet. The peace was not to last - in time the sorcerer Skeletor would free King Hiss who would recruit a small cabal of serpent men to serve the forces of evil. |
