Red Light is fueled by rage and the magic of blood. The Red Power Ring replaces the heart of the bearer, expelling their blood and replacing it with the liquid fire of red light. |

| Origin | |
| Before employing sentient
beings to enforce order throughout the universe, the
Guardians of the Universe employed emotionless robots known as
Manhunters. When the Manhunters malfunctioned they determined the
best means of maintaining order is to eliminate life, beginning with Space
Sector 666. Billions were murdered and the Manhunters had to be
deactivated. In the aftermath of the Massacre of Sector 666, five beings vowed revenge, dubbing themselves the Five Inversions. Operating as a terrorist cell, the Five Inversions used black magic, necromancy and precognition to sow seeds of doubt and fear in their enemies - allying themselves with another group know as the Empire of Tears. In their quest to contain and control stray magic, the Guardians defeated the Empire of Tears and captured the Five Inversions, incarcerating them on the planet Ysmault. Placing the planet off limits the Guardians sought to bury knowledge of the Massacre of Sector 666. Over the centuries the Five Inversions languished in crucifixion upon a hellish planet, their rage growing. One of the prisoners, Atrocitus harnessed his fury into harnessing the red spectrum of light, unlocking the secrets of rage and blood, killing his former cohorts and becoming the first Red Lantern. |
