While on an exploration mission, Solovar the leader of Gorilla City was captured by humans. Pretending to be nothing more than a normal ape he avoided disclosing the location of the hidden city to creatures he considered savage. Brought to the United States, Solovar was sold to a Central City circus. The revolutionary dissident Grodd traveled to Central City, but not to rescue the captured leader of Gorilla City, instead he desired Solovar's knowledge of mind control to amass an army of apes. Although learning the secret, he was thwarted by Central City's hero the Flash, and Grodd was sent back to Gorilla City to be imprisoned. Escaping, the revolutionary has returned many times to plague the world of man as the villainous super-ape Gorilla Grodd. |
