Centuries, possibly millennium, old the would-be world conqueror known as General Immortus, acquired his long life from an alchemical elixer, which due to losing the formula, has dwindled in supply over his long life.  Obsessed with requiring the formula, Immortus has employed the most famous chemist in history including Dr. Nile Caulder the future leader of the Doom Patrol.  Discovering Immortus' plan to conquer the world Caulder sabotaged his own discovery and earned the enmity of General Immortus.
