Ultimo is a doomsday android created thousands of years ago by an unknown alien race.  It crashed on Earth somewhere in modern China after a conflict with a vessel from the planet Rajak.

Discovered by would-be conqueror the Mandarin, the android was reprogrammed for his own purposes.  Mandarin first unleashed the android on Iron Man, a conflict that would be played out numerous times between the Avenger and the automaton, and against a fellow rival to rule China known as the Yellow Claw.
