Origin
The first recorded account of the use of a HERO-dial was by Robby Reed, who discovered the apparently alien artifact in an unexplored cave.

Reed used the H-dial to battle evil under numerous superhuman identities.  His career came to an end when battling Shirkon of the Many Eyes, Reed attempted to slit into two heroes, but instead was transformed into a being of pure good called the Wizard and one of pure evil called the Master.

The Master dialed his H-dial into oblivion, and the Wizard created two additional dials with diminished powers.  These additional dials would be used by Christopher King and Victoria Grant who would eventually aid the Wizard in reconstituting with the Master into Robby Reed.

Others have possessed the HERO-Dial, or variants of the artifact and the device has been recorded to exist into the 31st century, where ordinary people can use it to dial "H" for Hero.
