Mojo wanted yet more power,
and power meant giving the public what it wanted - entertainment.
Mojo's top rated television show was the
X-Men, who's exploits were
captured through the bionic eyes of his former slave, the mutant telepath
Psylocke. During the ever important "sweeps" period, to boost ratings the master of Mojoworld sent another of his performing slaves, Longshot, into the midst of an X-Men danger-room training session. The arrival of Longshot also brought a strange substance which regressed the maturity of the X-Men both physically and mentally - making them easier to capture and manipulate for his performance. The training team known as the New Mutants tracked the juvenile heroes to their last known location and were drawn into a fight with the once again mature, and mind controlled, X-Men. When Mojo's mind control was disrupted by Shadowcat his plan was hardly foiled because the battle broadcast to the citizens of Mojoworld accomplished the highest ratings ever - cementing Mojo's rule. When Mojo planned a sequel to his X-Babies sweeps stunt he was unable to locate the X-Men - who were taking refuge in the Australian Outback after a colossal battle in Dallas, Texas. If Mojo couldn't have the originals he decided to do the next best thing - make his own pint-sized heroes. The new X-Babies proved to be more than the television producer could manage and he ordered their cancellation, until he discovered they proved to be popular with the public and generated the highest ratings in Mojoworld history. |
