| Origin | |
| After the original team of
X-Men
were captured by the sentient island Krakoa,
Professor Xavier sought
help from his colleague Dr. Moria MacTaggart, who was training four orphaned
mutants. Using his mental powers, Professor X accelerated the quartet's training in a way that made them gain months of life experience and ability, but tragically it was not sufficient to accomplish the rescue mission. After returning the X-Men's leader Cyclops to their escape jet the team went to find the other captured team members, but the neophyte heroes were cut down by the forces of the island. Cyclops returned to the X-Men's home base and told Professor Xavier of what had occurred. To spare Cyclops the pain of the experience Xavier altered his memories and sent him back to the island with an all-new all-different team, leaving for many years the existence of Xavier's first rescue attempt a secret. |
