a warehouse hit on the Russian mob, the
Punisher
discovers that someone or
something mysteriously killed them before he had a chance, leaving only a
large tunnel leading into the floor. Not wanting to get involved in
the affairs of the super-human community he contacted his only super-hero
associate,
Daredevil, hoping he will call in the "big guns" to
deal with the problem. Circumstances lead to Daredevil meeting with his ally the Black Widow and her new associate Dagger. The three heroes resolve to investigate, to the disappointment of a spying Punisher. Meanwhile Kung Fu master, Shang Chi is attempting to rescue a ransomed girl from the Asian Mafia, when she is abducted once again by unidentified creatures burrowing up from the ground. Pursuing the creatures Shang Chi joins Black Widow and Dagger, who had become separated from Daredevil fighting the same kind of creatures. The Punisher and Daredevil discover that the creatures are Asgardian trolls under the command of Ulik. The troll Ulik is in pursuit of an Asgardian artifact known as the Horn of Auohumla, which is owned by a Manhattan businessman. Failing to acquire the artifact by conventional means of threat, Ulik resolved to attack that which the businessman values most, his building, as well as the rest of Manhattan. The Russian and Asian mafias were located at points where Ulik had his troll minions tunnel to weaken the basement structure of the building so that he could topple it by destroying the support beams. Daredevil goes to convince the owner of the building to give up the Asgardian artifact, while the Punisher attempts to distract Ulik from his task of destruction. Daredevil perseveres, the Punisher survives and Ulik returns to Asgard. Disaster averted, the group minus the Punisher, strike a lose alliance. Although not officially a team the otherwise loner heroes tacitly agree to join forces to fight the battles that normally go un-noticed by other super-hero teams. Although no official name exist for this alliance, these stalwarts met out justice as Marvel Knights. |
