| Origin | |
| Both the goddess of love Venus and the demi-god Heracles were guest lecturers at the University of California in Los Angeles when the Olympic god of the underworld Pluto attempted to abduct them in a plot to overthrow the leadership of the Olympic Gods by his brother Zeus. Assisted by the former Russian spy the Black Widow, the supernatural motorcyclist Ghost Rider and the mutants Angel and Iceman; Pluto was defeated. Resolving that the west-coast could use a superhuman team the group decided to form the short-lived and eclectic Champions. |
