Silver Age The highly successful inventive genius Dr. Will Magnus created a prototype female android with the properties of the element platinum, which he named Tina. Based upon his initial design for Platinum, Magnus created five additional robots, all powered by microchips capable of creating independent thought and emotions known as responsometers. The robots all had properties which utilized elements of the Periodic Table. The leader of the group is the analytic and malleable Gold. Iron is friendly - but able to use his considerable power with great force. Lead is slow but dependable and able to shield against harmful radiation. Mercury is proud and egotistical and capable of reacting with the fluidity of liquid. And last is Tin the smallest and weakest of the group but the bravest member of the Metal Men. Post-Crisis Owners of Magnus Robotics, brothers Will and Michael Magnus were hired by the United States military to create a team of robots. Will, most commonly called "Doc," designed the bodies of the robots based upon the properties of metallic elements and Michael designed a so-called "reponsometer" to imprint his personality onto one of the robots, but was sucked into the robot instead. Several other Magnus Robotics scientists befell the same fate and became the Metal Men. |
