Mutation resulting in a quantum singularity which exist where the head should be.  Kuan-Yin's singularity exist as a sun, while Shen's exist as a black houle.

Kuan Yin could emit a blinding light that could incinerate anything it shone upon.

Shen's black hole emits an intense gravity which  even light can not escape.

Both Xorns are capable of reversing the nature of their singularity thereby reversing their power to a sun from a black hole and vice versa.

Origin
The brothers Kuan-Yin Xorn and Shen Xorn's heads converted into quantum singularities the force of the power devastated their small Chinese villages forcing the authorities to encase their heads in containment helmets.  Both brothers were incarcerated, Kuan-Yin being held in an underground prison and Shen held at the site of his village guarded by the super-powered team known as the Eight Immortals.

Kuan-Yin put up for sell to the leader of the U-Men, John Sublime, who intended to harvest his mutant mind.  Kuan-Yin was rescued by the X-Men who he would apparently later betray in the guise of their oldest enemy Magneto.

After the betrayal by Kuan-Yin the X-Men traveled to China to investigate his apparent return, but instead they discovered that the man calling himself Xorn was Kuan-Yin's brother Shen.

The whereabouts of both men or their true stories is still a subject of speculation.
