| James Proudstar admired
his solider brother John Proudstar who fought for mutant rights as the X-Man
- Thunderbird. When Thunderbird perished on his second mission with
the X-Men, James Proudstar blamed
Professor X for his brother's death. Donning his brother's Thunderbird uniform, Proudstar joined the Hellions, a group of rival mutants who often battled Xavier's New Mutants. After drifting between his reservation and a few mutant teams, Proudstar returned home to find his tribe slaughtered by what he believed to have been the Hellions. Proudstar joined the New Mutants in a quest for revenge against the Hellions as Warpath. |
