Frank Castle was a career U.S. Marine, who after serving his tour of duty, worked as a special forces trainer in upstate New York.

 While picnicking in Central Park, Frank's wife and children were killed in the crossfire between two warring gangs.

On that day, Castle vowed to use his skills and experience to wage a one-man war on crime.  Now criminals dare not speak his name but in whispers for fear of The Punisher.
