Origin
Betsy Braddock and her twin brother Brian (Captain Britain I) were born of Elizabeth and Dr. James Braddock, an alien from an extra-dimensional realm called Otherworld ruled by and entity known as Merlin.

Developing psychic powers, Braddock used them in service of the law-enforcement agency S.T.R.I.K.E., the British division of S.H.I.E.L.D.  When her brother Brian gave up the role of Captain Britain, she was persuaded to take up the mantle.  Her career as Captain Britain came to a quick end when she battled two of her predecessor's foes, Vixen and Slaymaster, and was savagely beaten until blinded and near death.

Although her telepathic abilities compensated for her blindness, Braddock went to Switzerland to recuperate.  While recuperating she was taken prisoner by the other dimensional media mogul Mojo, who took control of Braddock's will and gave her artificial eyes to record and transmit information on the X-Men, which he would use to create television ratings cementing his rule over Mojoworld.  Braddock was rescued by the New Mutants and brought to the Xavier Institute where she joined the X-Men as Psylocke.
