| Origin | |
| The
extraterrestrial Phalanx, seeking the next generation of mutants, captured
Guthries's mother to lure her. After attempting a rescue she was
captured and brought to the Phalanx base where other mutants were being
held. Infected with the Transmode Virus by the Phalanx, it caused the young mutant great pain. Rescued by at the time X-Men ally, Sabretooth, he detected her infection and attempted to end her suffering and protect others and himself from infection by disemboweling her. In instinctive defense Guthrie's powers activated which enabled her to heal from her wounds and infection, shedding her skin and revealing a new more resilient form underneath, like the chaff of an iron seed, thus the codename Husk. |
