Origin
Real estate agent Arthur Douglas, his wife Yvette, and daughter Heather were driving across the Mojave Desert from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when they spotted the spaceship of Thanos, who was surveying the Earth for conquest.  Desiring to keep his presence a secret Thanos destroyed Douglas' car and left the family for dead.

Unknown to Thanos his activities were being monitored by his father Mentor.  The leader of the Eternals of Titan investigated the wreckage and found that Heather Douglas yet lived.  Mentor sent the girl to be raised on Titan where she would become the powerful telepath Moondragon.

Determining that the threat of his son was too powerful to ignore Mentor called upon the spirit of his father Chronos to create a champion.  Chronos seized the spirit of Arthur Douglas and fashioned a new body from the dessert soil, imbuing it with the power cosmic.

Blocking Douglas' memories of his former life, Chronos instilled in the cosmically powered golem a monomaniacal hatred of Thanos and unleashed him upon the mad Titan as Drax the Destroyer.
