| After
injuries resulted in his natural wings being amputated, the mutant
Apocalypse grafted razor sharp metallic wings to Worthington's back christening
him as his fourth horseman Death. Over time his natural wings grew within the artificial appendages and they were eventually shed, leaving him with his former feathered wings intact. |

| Origin | |
| While
attending private boarding school, Warren Worthington's mutant power
developed and wings sprouted from his shoulder blades. Discovering
he could fly, he came to enjoy the freedom they allowed, however he was
careful to keep his newfound abilities secret. When a fire broke out in his dormitory, Worthington disguised his identity, using his power to save his fellow students. Eyewitnesses claimed they were saved by an angel. Shortly thereafter, he took up life as a costumed crime fighter in New York City under the guise of the Avenging Angel. Eventually he would be contacted by Professor Charles Xavier and accept membership as a founding member of the X-Men as the high flying Angel. |
