| Origin | |

While testing an experimental rocket plane in 1958, NASA test pilot Chuck
Chandler was captured by alien
Skulls. Escaping his interrogators, Chuck damaged the Skrull
ship's warp drive causing it to explode has he flew away, exposing him to
alien radiation. Witnessing the explosion from Earth, Chuck's
scientist brother Hal thought his brother had perished, but strangely
Chuck's essence was imprinted as a two-dimensional image upon the lenses of
Hal's eye-glasses; enabling Hal, with great mental concentration, to summon
his brother back into three-dimensional space as the super-powered
3-D Man. Years later a religious group known as the Triune Understanding was founded by Jonathan Tremont, who warned of a cosmic "Triple Evil." Stealing the powers of the original 3-D Man, Tremont empowered disgraced Olympic athlete Delroy Garrett Jr., to serve as his organization's spokesman Triathlon. Garrett initially believed that his powers came from his own belief in himself and the teachings of the Triune Understanding, but when Tremont's true intents were discovered, Garrett and the Avengers foiled the cult leader's plans. Garrett disappeared for a time, resurfacing as a recruit for the Avengers 50-State Initiative, now possessing the full powers of the 3-D Man. |
