Note: Sheena appeared as a typical black-and-white newspaper comic strip in the British tabloid magazine Wags.  The strip was syndicated for overseas distribution by the American company Editors Press Service.  The Wags newspaper strips were reprinted in the United States by the publisher Fiction House Comics in the pages of Jumbo Comics #1.  New material in the pin-up style of the 1940's was created years later.

Creator
Will Eisner, Jerry Iger & Mort Meskin

Note: To conceal the small number of employees at Universal Phoenix Features studio (commonly known by many today as the Eisner-Iger Studio) pseudonyms were commonly used to create the illusion of a larger staff.  The creation of Sheena was attributed in Wags #1 to the pseudonym "W. Morgan Thomas."

Origin
As a child Sheena Rivington was brought to Africa by her explorer father, Cardwell Rivington.  Befriending a tribal witchdoctor named Koba, the elder Rivington taught the native mage English and about the western world.  When Rivington prepared to leave the jungle, Koba concocted a magic potion to compel the explorer to stay, but it accidentally poisoned his friend - killing him.  Distraught, Koba adopted Rivington's daughter and raised her to understand the ways of the natural world.  Sheena grew to become a strong, brave and beautiful protector of her adopted land as the Queen of the Jungle.
