| Fighting in a south-east
Asian war, the man only known as Snake-Eyes returned to the United
States after sustaining a combat injury. Waiting for his family at the
airport; they would never arrive having died in a collision with a drunk
driver. Despondent, the soldier spent his time getting drunk and
fighting. Although offered help by one of his platoon members, Tommy
Arashikage (Storm
Shadow), Snake-Eyes refused; eventually partnering in a cross-country
vigilante rampage with the man who would become known as the
Cobra
Commander. The future Cobra Commander's goal was to take vengeance upon a judge that had ruled against his brother in a trial concerning a fire which destroyed the brother's shelter for veterans. It was at the moment of vengeance against the judge that it was revealed that Cobra Commander's brother was responsible for the death of Snake-Eye's family. Convinced that the judge was responsible for the deaths of both their families Cobra Commander insisted that Snake-Eyes pull the trigger, but he refused. After Cobra Commander killed the judge, Snake-Eyes fled and moved to Japan joining Storm Shadow's ninja clan. After an assassination attempt on Snake-Eyes by operatives of Cobra Commander failed and resulted in the death of the ninja clan's leader, the clan dissolved and Snake-Eyes went into solitude in the High Sierras. When they were forming the G.I. Joe team, Hawk and Stalker tracked Snake-Eyes to his mountain cabin recruiting him as one of their most effective agents. |
