Billions of years into the future, before Earth's destruction by the detonation of its ancient red sun, Jor-L, a distant ancestor of Lex Luthor and Lois Lane, rocketed his only son Kal-L into Earth's past. Kal-L was discovered by a Ukrainian farm couple, who raised the apparent alien as their son. Upon maturity he exhibited incredible powers derived from his exposure to the yellow solar radiation of Earth's healthy sun. With the moral guidance of his adopted parents and the political guidance of the Communist Party, Kal-L became the Soviet Union's greatest protector, Superman.
