Origin
A war veteran with a wooden leg, Johnny Mann worked as a combat journalist.  While on assignment coving a civil war on the Greek island Cyprete, Mann visited the ruins of the Hall of Jupiter.  While contemplating why the gods would allow so much war and killing he was transported to Mount Olympus - confronted by Jupiter, Mars Venus and Vulcan.

His body healed and augmented by the goddess Venus and given access to the Arsenal of Vulcan, Mann was returned to Earth to fight against the evil of war he so despised as the Son of Vulcan.
