| Origin | |
| On the eve of America
entering World War II the secret government Project M was tasked with
developing a superhuman soldier in a complex beneath the Statue of Liberty
on Bledsoe's Island. When the project's first subject died an
operative named Agent X offered to find a new test subject. Finding a compatible subject Agent X believed to be a man named "John" he invited reporter Joan Dale to the secret complex. When she arrived Dale was abducted and subjected to experiments that were believed to have lead to her death. Project M left the reporter on a park bench and in her state of a death-like coma Dale forgot about what she had learned and had a surreal dream of the Statue of Liberty bestowing upon her powers to battle against the forces of tyranny. Discovering that she had obtained the power to transmute matter Dale adopted the patriotic identity of Miss America. |
