| Origin | |
| After a great disaster the
Earth is plunged into chaos and humanity devolves into a savage and brutish
race. Before the "Great Disaster" a mutagenic chemical called cortexin was created which evolved lesser animals giving them human form, speech and intelligence. The research animals the chemical was exposed to gave rise to a new dominant species. One of the few human survivors was Buddy Blank, the hero formerly known as Omac, who had taken refuge in a bunker near New York City. Within the bunker Blank raised and educated his grandson Kamandi, named after the bunker itself "Command D." After the death of Blank by humanoid wolves, Kamandi left the bunker to explore the world, find his own destiny and bring humanity back to a state of civilization. |
