| The golden-age
Oliver Queen became independently wealthy after discovering a
golden American-Indian statue, while on an archeological expedition to
replace his collection of artifacts that he lost to a fire. He was joined by his future sidekick Roy Harper (Speedy), battling a gang of thugs that, ironically, thought Queen was looking for gold at the Lost Mesa. The two fought off the thugs using their archery skills, inspiring Queen to take his role as the Green Arrow. The silver-age Oliver Queen enjoying a cruise on his private yacht when it was boarded by pirates and he was knocked overboard during the struggle. Queen managed to swim to a nearby deserted island. While on the island he fashioned a longbow and trained himself in archery, in order to survive. The pirates would eventually land on the island, after taking over another ship, with intent on killing the passengers. Queen defeated the pirates using his archery skills and returned to civilization as the Green Arrow. |
