| Origin | |
| After the Blue Beetle Scarab was recovered from where it was buried beneath tons of rubble, it was given to Ted Kord; the heir to the Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett. Unable to unlock the scarab's apparent mystical power, Kord sought the assistance of the wizard Shazam. The ancient wizard kept the scarab within the extra-dimensional Rock of Eternity and sent Kord back to Earth. When the Rock of Eternity was shattered by the Spectre during a crisis known as Day of Vengeance, the scarab fell back to Earth with the shards of the mystical fortress. Landing in a alley in El Paso, Texas the scarab was found by high-school student Jaime Reyes who would discover that the scarab was alien in origin and unlock the previously unknown powers of the Blue Beetle. |
