Golden-Age Aquaman was raised at the bottom of the ocean by a marine archeologist that had discovered the lost city of Atlantis. Although human, he was able to live underwater for long periods of time and had adapted to the great pressures and low light of the ocean. Unlike his silver age incarnation he communicated with ocean life audibly by "speaking" their language. Silver-Age Prince Orin, was abandoned on a reef as an infant due to the color of his hair, blonde, which was considered the mark of the Curse of Kordax by the people of Atlantis. Found and raised by a pod of dolphins, he then later befriended a lighthouse keeper named Arthur Curry, who taught the young man language and the ways of surface dwellers. Orin took his adopted father's name as his own. Dubbed Aquaman by Flash II, who he developed a friendship with as well as the other members of the Justice League, of which he is a founding member. Eventually the abandoned prince would return to Atlantis, reclaim the mantle of king and protectorate of the seven seas as Aquaman. |
