The predecessor to Earth's Green Lantern Hal Jordan, Abin Sur served with the Green Lantern Corp for close to an Earth century.

He had contact with the human race about a decade after becoming a member of the galactic police force and would eventually return in search of a successor after being fatally injured by the robotic Legion.
