| Origin | |
| The
younger sister of
Heimdall, the
watchmen of
Asgard,
Sif was a childhood playmate of
Thor
and
Loki. Jealous of Thor and Sif's bond, Loki cut off the young goddess' golden locks while she slept. Furious, Thor demanded that his roguish half-brother replace the hair he had removed. Seeking out a pair of dwarf smiths Loki convinced them to use their arts to create new golden locks for Sif. Because the trickster was unable to pay for the dwarf's handy work they decided that the "price of naught" deserved the "strands of naught," and changed the hair ebony black. Once placed upon Sif's head the hair magically took root and began to grow. Thor thought the hair even more beautiful than before, thus Loki's plan to ruin the romance failed. |
