| Origin | |
| A cosmic entity as old as
life in the universe the Phoenix Force was drawn to Earth by the
powerful telepathy of Jean Grey the
X-Men member known
as
Marvel Girl. After the X-Men were kidnapped by Sentinels controlled by Steven Lang and brought to his space station. Defeating their adversary the X-Men were forced to fly a space shuttle through a solar storm. Grey volunteered to pilot the spacecraft and was exposed to a deadly amount of radiation. Dying of radiation poisoning she was approached by the Phoenix Force which offered to save her and her teammates. After the shuttle crashed in Jamaica Bay near New York the X-Men escaped and from the depths emerged the woman they thought was Jean Grey - who now called herself Phoenix. |
