Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Note: The creation of the Olympic God of War known as Ares can be traced back to ancient Greece and may even predate that culture due to the nature of humans to war upon one another. |

| Origin | |
| Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera, king and queen of the Olympic gods. Worshiped as a god of war by both the peoples of Greece and Rome, his powers diminished when Zeus allowed the worship of the Olympians to dwindle with the rise of Christianity. Angry at his diminished status, Ares has plotted on several occasions the downfall of his father, and desires one day to return the Olympic gods to their former glory. |
