Sending fragments of itself to four key planets: Earth, Rann, Thanagar and Xanshi, the Anti-Life entity set forth plans to destroy at least two of the planets and gain a foothold within the dimension.

An alliance is forged between the New Gods of Apokolips and New Genesis as well as heroes from Earth.  Their mission is to stop the aspects of the Anti-Life from destroying the key planets.

The plot on Earth is apparently halted early by Batman and Forager, the remaining planets are protected by Orion and Superman on Thanagar; Starfire and Lightray on Rann; and Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter on Xanshi.  While the other heroes are successful in thwarting the Anti-Life's plan Green Lantern fails when his arrogance leads to disaster.  Charging ahead without the assistance of the Martian Manhunter, he discovers too late that the weapon to destroy Xanshi has been rendered impervious to his ring simply by coloring it yellow.  The explosion causes the planet to hurdle from its orbit into the sun causing the mutual destruction of both celestial bodies.

Despite the Green Lantern's failure the Anti-Life is halted from entering the dimension.  What the heroes do not know is that Darkseid has planned a double-cross.  Utilizing the mystical energies of the demon Etrigan, Darkseid enters the Anti-Life dimension - and discovers too late the folly of his quest.  Fleeing in fear the Master of Apokolips leaves an opening for Anti-Life to enter his dimension.  Only with the assistance of the mystic Dr. Fate are the heroes of New Genesis and Earth able to halt the Anti-Life.
