Krypto I Due to a ban on space travel Jor-El couldn't safely acquire test animals for his rocket experiments. Desperate, the Kryptonian scientist resorted to using his infant son's dog as a passenger for an orbital spacecraft. While in orbit the craft was struck by a meteorite and was irretrievable. When Jor-El's next rocket, containing his son Kal-El as a passenger destined for the planet Earth, left the doomed planet of Krypton, the dog's spacecraft was drawn into the space warp. When Kal-El's rocket reached Earth it crashed near Smallville, Kansas, but the dog's craft was trapped within the planet's orbit. Other than being confined, the dog was secure because his alien physiology absorbed the yellow radiation of Earth's sun making him more powerful and capable of surviving without food, water or life support. After over a decade the spacecraft's orbit decayed and it crashed to Earth, coincidentally near Smallville. When the dog emerged its super senses detected the scent of the child that was once his master, reuniting a teen Kal-El now under the guise of Superboy with his pet dog Krypto. Krypto III Director of S.T.A.R. Labs, Dr. Emil Hamilton & John Henry Irons (Steel II) discovered the Phantom Zone could be used as a portal not only to other dimensions but other places in time. After Superman received a time-capsule message from his biological father Jor-El about the true Krypton, he resolved to use the new discovery about the Phantom Zone in an attempt to spare Krypton it's fate. He and his wife, reporter Lois Lane, wishing to get the exclusive of the century, traveled to the city of Kryptonopolis to meet Kal-El's (Superman) parents. When they returned to Earth Kal-El's childhood pet Krypto followed the couple through the phantom zone. As his Kryptonian physiology began to absorb Earth's yellow solar radiation, the dog grew stronger and more powerful everyday, becoming a Superman's best friend, Kprypto the Superdog. |
